Dépaysement

GLOSSARY

Pronounced, “dee-pace-mon”. A French term to describe the disoriented feeling that comes from being in a foreign or different place. ‘Pays’ translates to ‘country’ and ‘dépayser’ means ‘to disorientate’. Hence, some may refer to this feeling as ‘decountrification’, or the feeling of being an outsider.
