Z

Zanshin

Pronounced, “zan-xin” (残心). A term used in Japanese martial arts that refers to the mental state of relaxed alertness. It is the art of attention and focus of the mind, body and surrounding while being relaxed. Zanshin allows one to be calm and prepared in face of an opponent or adversity.

Zeal

Determined conviction for an idealistic cause that craves consensus and is intolerant of dissent. Zeal may take the form of value convictions, communal commitment, closed-minded certainty, angry jingoism, religious fervor, or political extremism.

Zest

A state of overall physical fitness and health, feelings of excitement, positive energy, optimism and life satisfaction. Zest can also be cultivated in the workplace through the enhancement of one’s psychological well-being.
