Expressive Writing

GLOSSARY

The act of constructing stories and personal narratives through writing that helps individuals understand their experiences and themselves. Expressive writing allows the individual to organize and remember events in a coherent fashion while integrating thoughts and feelings, resulting in a more manageable experience of one’s emotions. Constructing stories through writing facilitates a sense of resolution, which results in less rumination and allows disturbing experience to subside gradually from conscious thought.
