L’appel du vide

GLOSSARY

Pronounced as “lapel-du-vi-deh,” in French or literally, “the call of the void” in English. Also known as “high place phenomenon”, whereby one has the urge or impulse to hurl oneself into dangerous situations. The “void” represents the danger, and the “call” is the urge or impulse that the individual receives for no reason. It is not the same as suicidal ideation but is common and normal for people to experience this feeling, especially in high-up places.
